Kings Komments, Issue #002

July 1, 2009

Welcome to my monthly ezine about everything hole-in-one. I'll do my darndest to keep you up to date on actual holes in one, holes in one news and hole in one stories.

I'll also throw in a tip or two picked up during my very long PGA career. I still see amatuers today, making the same simple mistakes they made years back. While there is much more to see, read and experiment with in golf. Mostly, the fundamentals are now, what they were 20, if not 40 years ago. I'll try to help you hit 'em straight.

That's the only way to get hole in ones!!

A tip from the King

We have all heard the term “one piece takeaway”, but what does that really mean? It’s obviously in relation to the beginning of the golf swing, which in my opinion, is most critical.

A “one piece takeaway” simply refers to the clubhead, arms and shoulders moving back in unison, with emphasis on a smooth pace.

Many amateur players I see while doing my King of Aces outing tend to move the hands first, leaving the clubhead behind, which creates a tendency to start the downward motion before the backswing is actually completed.

Focus on the shoulders initiating the swing, as this will also move the arms and hands. Think of it as a triangle with the shoulders serving as the base.

This sequence will allow the lower body to follow the upper portion to create a proper weight transfer, hopefully resulting in more distance for the average player.

June's Best Hole In One News

The Morning Call - June 10, 2009.

No Jokers, Just Back to Back Aces.

Tim Oskin figured it was just playing partner Joseph Russo indulging his love of pranks. Because, really, how often do two golfers get back-to-back aces on the same hole? Once in every 26 million swings, according to a golf-outing insurer. ''Joe is the best practical-joke guy around,'' said Oskin of Hellertown. ''I told him, 'Joe, there's no way two balls can go into a hole like that.' When we got to the green, I was in complete disbelief.
