October 1, 2009

Welcome to our fifth monthly ezine/newsletter about everything hole-in-one. This ezine/newsletter supplements our great blog that provides daily hole in one news and stories.

I've also thrown in another tip picked up during my very long PGA career. I still see amatuers today, making the same simple mistakes they made years back. While there is much more to see, read and experiment with in golf. Mostly, the fundamentals are now, what they were 20, if not 40 years ago. I'll try to help you hit 'em straight.

That's the only way to get hole in ones!!

A TIP FROM THE KING

We are in the process of replacing yardage makers on our driving range.

During installation, it amazed me how many golfers don't know how far they actually hit each club.

I know we have all read in Golf Digest that we should hit a seven iron about 150 yards....but how far do you actually hit a seven iron? Pretty good information to have, and readily accessible.

Get to your range early one morning and hit several shots with a specific club. Measure the average distance and put that in the memory bank Do this several times with different clubs to truly learn how far you hit each of the clubs in the bag.

This can obviously be done on the course also (without holding up play) from the various markers on the course itself. Knowing how far you hit each club on average will go a long way to making you a better player.

Until next time,

Hit ‘em Straight, Mancil

A GREAT HOLE IN ONE STORY (UNEDITED)

From: Sam Adams, Nova Scotia.

i never had a hole in 1 in 20 years of golf, until sept 11th i teed up a 9 iron on #17 at highlands links,i saw the ball hit the greenand start to roll towards the hole, sun was shining in our eyes so it was hard to tell if it was in the hole or not, sure enough it was,2 days later i was on the 5th hole teed up my trusty 9 iron and hit it, ball landed on green rolled up and right in hole, the third one was 2 days later again on the third hole i teed up a wedge hit the ball ,the ball hit the green released and rolled right into the cup,we were shocked, hard to believe 3 holes in 1 in 5 days the odds are almost 1 in 3 billion!!
